Catherine Nanjala Wambilianga was born and raised in Bungoma County, where she began her educational journey at Misikhu Primary School, completing her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) between 1973 and 1979.

She proceeded to Misikhu Girls School from 1979 to 1982 for her O-Level education, and then attended Lugulu Girls High School from 1983 to 1984, where she obtained her A-Level Certificate. Her strong academic performance laid the foundation for her future career in education.

Between 2007 and 2011, she pursued higher education at Masinde Muliro University of Agriculture and Technology (MMUST), graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree. This educational background has been instrumental in her teaching career and later political pursuits.

Her parliamentary work has been marked by advocacy for educational development, particularly in her home county of Bungoma. She has consistently pushed for better infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads such as the Brigadier-Naiteri-Misikhu Road in Bungoma County.

In March 2021, she survived a serious car accident while campaigning in Kabuchai, which left her with a broken leg. Despite this setback, she continued her political work and was successfully re-elected in the 2022 general election.
